How Do I Post Images?
« on: Tuesday 07 September 04 17:05 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I have a photo of my ggrandparents and I would very much like to post it on Rootschat for the world to see :)

On my travels around the site I've noticed that with the exception of Census images there are very few(if any) of peoples Rellies :(

I can't be alone in wanting to show everyone (who's interested)who my ancestors were, perhaps we could have a board specifically for that purpose?

The problem is is that I can't seem to work out exactly how to post an image ??? and would appreciate it if someone could post an idoits guide to help me(and others)out.

Any ideas? regards,Mick ;)

Hi there

Is the piccy already on your hard drive - if it is, right mouse click on it, and in the properties box, check to see that it is 300kb or less or it wont load.

In the box where you type this message you will notice (4th from left) a picture.

Click on it, and [img][/img will appear in the box.

seperate them [img]       [/img and paste the location of your piccy (C:piccys/relative/aunt jane)  inbetween the img's

Now post your message, should put piccy into your message when viewed

I'M GOING TO TRY IT....Well it seems my paintshop pro images are too big, according to chrisin1066land instructions, so how do I alter the pic to fit on here?
Norfolk England: Barlow (convict to Australia), Star Winter, Herres, Houghton, Ivory, Gorbiel
Fife Scotland: Stark, Hereford: Stanton (Convict), Shrewsbury: Simmons/ens?? (Convict)
London: Lipman (London Jew - Assisted Immigrant to Australia),
Lancashire (I think)(Immigrated to Australia): Timmens, Starr
Ireland: Twohig (Immigrated to Australia)
Norway: Klausen Jørgensen, and so on and so forth,(not sure if its relevant here)
New Caledonia: Bousseaux (if anyone knows how to find this one)..

your pictures probably have names ending with .bmp (BitMaP Format)

If you load the picture in a program like IrfanView (freeware) then you can
a) change the format from BMP to JPG which needs less bytes, and then
b) in the "image" menu there is a "resize" option. you can change the size of the picture to anything you want.

if you already have your pictures in JPG ot GIF, just use b)

another tip:
If you have scanned the picture in using a scanner (probably 300 dpi) and want to print it, then you need to size it down to about a quarter (75 dpi)

Hope this helps
Bob
