Could you tell me how much information you require to look up 2 individuals in the 1940/50s electoral rolls. I know my great uncle's name William John Rees, date of birth 1894 Pembrey/ Bury Port and that he was a train driver for GWR. I even remember driving down a steep hill to get to his house but I don't know the address. His wife was known as Blanche but I am told she was Elizabeth Blanche.

I quite understand if this is impossible but thought it was worth asking

Many thanks

Hello Janed

I don't pursue electoral roll look ups due to the fact that there are many volumes of books which would have to be searched.

If William and Elizabeth Blanche were living in Swansea it may be possible that they lived in the Landore area of Swansea this was a popular area to live in as it was near to the railways.  The only steep hill I can think of in this area is Siloh Rd Landore. This genuki link will give you some information on the area.

Kind Regards Jen

Many thanks for your reply. The name of the area of Swansea sounds familiar so I'll try and research some more. It's quite a problem on some things from Canada when you dn't know the cities well. Cardiff and Pembrokeshire are fine but somehow I missed out on Swansea other than family visits

Hello again,

For more information on the Swansea area, this site is excellent, however it is a subscription  :-[
still excellent if you have ancestors in the region:
http://www.swanseahistoryweb.co.uk/

If you manage to gain more knowledge on your Rees family post what you have, hopefully we will be able to help.  :)

Hi Jen,

How would I go about finding a person on the electoral rolls for Swansea in 1915? Should I contact Swansea City Council ordering services directly? Will I need to supply an address for reference? Thanks.

Kind Regards,

Lynn

Hello thanks for your message.
The above volumes are held in Swansea Reference Library
Their contact details & point of contact can be found via this link:
http://www.swansea.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=521

I am not sure if they actually do searches for people with these lists simply due to their staffing levels. If you do not know the address a rough area would locate the family, however there is still an awful lot of trawling through the books.

If you think I can help you in any way please let me know
Regards Jen  :D

Jen,

I am looking for William I. Jones in Swansea town ca. 1915. Not an easy one I suspect. :(

Hello, If one does have specific addresses from the census, is that more do-able in terms of a possible look-up?  I have George Hawkins (and wife Ann Thomas Hawkins) and they ran the South Wales Hotel (don't know when started or ended)for a few years ...
1871, 62 High Street, South Wales Hotel
1881, 8 Freehold Street, retired
1891, his widow, Ann Hawkins, is at 93 Baymymon Rd

Thanks for any assistance or guidance ...

Diane :-)
